A Word

New Year’s resolutions never really held much attraction for me and were not something I ever put into practice.  I used the excuse it was because I had heard so many people abandon their resolutions in a matter of months if not days, so why bother following what seemed an impractical practice?  In all honesty, however, I don’t believe practicality entered the equation.   I believe I was more afraid of failing.  Afraid of not achieving a goal I had put out to the universe and perhaps had been ill-conceived at its inception.  This didn’t mean I didn’t try to change and grow, have better health, save more money,  read more books and a myriad of other things I wished to accomplish.  It just meant there was no definitive goal.   Read more “A Word” →

‘Tis the Gift Receiving Season

  • December 11, 2019December 9, 2019

For my family December is a month of traditions.  Special foods, celebrations, decorations, music, candy canes, snowmen, elves, family, friends, and gifts.  With all this activity, gifts however, seem to dominate and be an integral part of the month whether arrival is by Santa’s sleigh, a silent angel or someone we know well.   I have always enjoyed giving gifts to others, trying to find that special something that will light up their eyes or be treasured for years to come.  Not always an easy task and not always accomplished but there is still the challenge in trying and joy in succeeding .  Read more “‘Tis the Gift Receiving Season” →

Mother Nature-It’s A Wrap!

Earlier this year, dear friends, I shared with you a shift in my perspective about how I chose to honor Mother Nature.   By simply choosing to share my love and gratitude with her, the activities that had once seemed a burden, instead became a regular part of my daily life with no resentment.  With this change in perspective I also began to make more mindful choices about purchases and how I was doing things.  I was wanting to mitigate my personal impact on our beloved planet as best I could.  With gift giving and all its embellishments now officially on the calendar, I began to wonder if there was a way I could diminish the pile of wrapping paper, gift boxes and ribbon that annually make the trek from my house to the landfill.  Here are some alternatives that I have either used in the past or came across in my research and daydreaming.

Reality Bites

Vacation or time away from home and the day to day routine is very healing and much needed in our overly scheduled lifestyles.  It can can also be challenging just to carve the time out and make the preparations but then you can breathe…the holiday has begun!  Or has it?   Read more “Reality Bites” →

Vacation and Reset

Sandy beaches, elegant swaying palm trees, a cool light breeze and the sun playing peek-a-boo with wispy clouds is one of my imagination’s ideas of a perfect stress free get away.  As I continue to daydream, other natural environments come to my mind including; hiking under foliage covered trails in the mountains, dancing amongst trees so tall I can barely glimpse the top branches as they touch the sky, and camping under stars so bright and visible, I share in their joy of not competing with light pollution. These are the places I enjoy escaping to for even a few hours to reset, decompress and reconnect with who I am.  Just envisioning being out in nature, no electronics and time to just experience life, brings a peace to my soul. Just Be You Boo

We all have expectations of ourselves and others.  In many instances it is a function of being a part of society, filling the roles that have been structured for survival of the community.  I don’t know about you dear friend, but, the expectation to be some one other than who I am has been an influence throughout my entire life.  Either to present a more professional presence, be more fun and impulsive (I tend to be serious and introspective in nature), to be more outgoing with new people, more forthcoming in large groups of people or to not be sooooooo sensitive.  These are some of the areas I have often fallen short in, receiving criticism and judgement consistently through my life, to the point I believed that who I was was not okay.  I believed I needed to be someone else and so I changed as best as I could.

Loving Mother Nature-Please Suck Responsibly

A few weeks back, dear friends, I shared with you a shift in my perspective about how I chose to honor Mother Nature.   By simply choosing to share my love and gratitude with her, the activities that had once seemed a burden, became a regular part of my daily activities with no resentment.  With this change in perspective I also began to make more mindful choices about purchases or how I was doing things.  I was wanting to mitigate my personal impact on our beloved planet as best I could.  As a part of this change I began seeking other sources for items that I knew were detrimental to the environment and testing them to see if the replacements I found would fit into my lifestyle with minimal impact and frustration.  And, as promised, I am revisiting this theme today with information I have found to share with you.   Read more “Loving Mother Nature-Please Suck Responsibly” →

Loving Mother Nature

As part of my journey many years ago I began to identify with nature.  Not only did it give me a sense of peace when I was away from the hustle and bustle of the city but many times I felt connected to the world in a joyful way.  It didn’t matter if it was a park, the mountains, the desert or the beach; spring, summer, fall or winter; just being in the presence of untamed beauty and hearing the breeze in the trees, the sweet melody of birdsong or the power of the ocean is always a treasured experience.  Mother Nature has so many gifts to share with us, yet unfortunately we have not been as generous in our treatment of her.

The Brilliantly Beckoning Path

We all have a unique journey in this life.  A path to follow, so that we experience what we are meant to experience and grow and blossom into the unique beings we are.   Sometimes we travel this path with others and sometimes alone.  Sometimes the path is dark and unclear and other times the light so bright and the path so clear we wonder how we could have ever doubted the direction.
